T.R.A.C.K.S. (Together Railroads And Communities Keeping Safe) is a joint venture between the LIRR's Corporate Safety department and the MTA Police to provide age appropriate, customized training to schools, camps, day cares, libraries, and community groups. We stress the importance of safety at grade crossings and on our platforms and trains; how to travel safely using our system; and the hazards that exist on or near the tracks.

Every three hours someone is hit by a train in the United States. On foot or in a vehicle, the result is the same – severe injury or even death. The video and content here teaches you and your loved ones how to be safe around railroad tracks, grade crossings and transit platforms.
Isn't Your Life Worth The Wait?
Don't race the gate, play it safe:
- Never walk or drive through or around a safety gate with the warning lights flashing or when the gate is in motion or down.
- If your vehicle ever gets struck on the tracks, get out immediately and move to a safe location away from the tracks. Then, call 911 or the number on crossing signs.

Safety Along The Tracks
Wearing Face Coverings on Trains and at Stations
To reinforce the importance of wearing face coverings when riding the Long Island Rail Road, we sponsored an art/slogan contest for Kindergarten through Grade 12 students. We invited students to submit their designs through our TRACKS Program at tracks@lirr.org. Five winners were selected and are featured below. These winning entries are being used on social media as well to highlight the importance of wearing face coverings in accordance with New York State Executive Orders 202.17 and 202.18. We received an abundance of creative and talented submissions, and will be featuring additional artwork from some of our runners-up in the weeks ahead.
