The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Small Business Development Program (SBDP), through the MTA Small Business Mentoring Program (SBMP) and the Small Business Federal Program (SBFP), has created a new model for engaging and growing NYS certified Minority and Women Business Enterprises (MWBEs), certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOBs).
The MTA is committed to equal opportunity and diversity inclusion. Through our Small Business Development Program, the goal is to develop and grow emerging contractors through classroom and on-the-job training and technical assistance in prime contracts with MTA Agencies, thereby creating a larger pool of diverse qualified contractors who can compete for and complete MTA construction projects safely, timely and within budget.
The Mentoring and Federal Programs are designed for small businesses, from emerging to more experienced contractors, providing access to prime construction bidding opportunities up to $3 million and increased business opportunities through professional development training, technical assistance and access to capital and bonding.
Since inception, 443 contracts, totaling over $467 million, have been awarded to small businesses within the Mentoring and Federal Programs.
The Small Business Mentoring Program, Tier 1 and Tier 2, are state- and locally- funded MTA projects. Upon successful completion of the four-year Tier 1 program, contractors are then eligible to apply simultaneously for Tier 2, a four-year program, and the Federal program, a three-year federally-funded program.
