Daniel F. DeCrescenzo, Jr., is President of MTA Bridges and Tunnels (aka, Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority or TBTA), which operates nine tolled crossings linking the boroughs of New York City; these facilities handle approximately 900,000 daily trips and generate annual toll revenue of $2 billion. Mr. DeCrescenzo is responsible for carrying out the agency’s core mission of providing safe, secure and reliable passage for customers; advancing state-of-good-repair, Capital and Major Maintenance projects; and delivering surplus toll revenue to support the MTA’s mass transit services.
Prior to being appointed Acting President in January 2019, Mr. DeCrescenzo served as Vice President and Chief of Operations, presiding over daily operations of the seven bridges and two tunnels, which included supervision of all TBTA law enforcement personnel and activities.
Mr. DeCrescenzo began his career at the MTA as a Bridge and Tunnel Officer in 1990. As he progressed through the ranks he held a range of positions including Sergeant, Lieutenant, Training Instructor, Operations Superintendent, General Manager, Director of Bridges South (Verrazzano-Narrows, Cross Bay and Marine Parkway Bridges), Director of Central Operations and Assistant Chief & Senior Director, Operations. He is knowledgeable in all areas of agency business including tolling, revenue collection, capital planning, budget, procurement, traffic control, law enforcement, safety, security, labor relations, deployment, staffing, incident and special event management, policy development, training and scheduling.
He was integral to this agency’s response during and immediately following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which included the development and expansion of the agency’s 24/7 Operations Command Center (OCC). He has also served in leadership capacity for preparedness, response and recovery from major weather events, including Hurricane Irene, Winter Storms Nemo and Jonas, and Superstorm Sandy.
In nearly three decades of service, Mr. DeCrescenzo has played a vital role in major transformations such as the introduction of the E-ZPass electronic toll payment system in 1995; an all-electronic tolling pilot at the Henry Hudson Bridge in 2012; and the planning and implementation of Open Road Tolling in 2017. The most notable new initiative under his purview stems from recent legislation signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo, for the establishment of a Central Business District Tolling Program, which will be the first of its kind in the nation, to reduce congestion and generate additional revenue for the MTA.
Mr. DeCrescenzo is a current Board Member of TRANSCOM (Transportation Operations Coordinating Committee) and a member of ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security) International. He attended Kean College in New Jersey and holds numerous certifications in Incident and Emergency Management.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. DeCrescenzo grew up in Staten Island. He and his wife have three sons.
