The safety of our customers and our workforce is our top priority. We are hopeful that increased transparency about the rate of mask compliance on our subway and bus systems will provide both reassurance and a measure to show how by all working together, we can improve mask compliance further to keep everyone safe.
Subway and bus mask compliance is measured in two-week alternating cycles. Results are based on observations of passengers between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. The subway survey estimates mask usage rates from a representative systemwide statistical sample, and the bus survey provides mask usage rates from observations at the 15 busiest bus stops per borough. We plan to update the page bi-weekly when the results of each cycle are available.
